I thought this would be the best way for me to journal about our first BIG family trip. Back in December, my parents had asked if we wanted to join them on a trip to Flordia/Disney World to celebrate my mom's 5 years in remission and Stephanie's graduation from high school. After lots of should we/shouldn't we conversations, we decided we should go. Jack was so excited at first but of course when we didnt go he kind of forgot about it. Well, the week before we left I started reminding him we were going to see Mickey Mouse very soon. He even asked me if this was really going to happen!
We left on Tuesday, May 29th. To be at the airport in time we had to leave at 430 which meant waking the kids up at 4! Both Ryan and I figured they would just sleep in the car...well, we were wrong! Jack was awake the entire time! Our flight with the kids went really well. Lydia slept and Jack watched movies or played with Auntie Stephanie. When we were taking off, Jack told me that we were going to blast off and then crash down into the water--not really a pretty picture :) But we made it just fine. Jack finally fell asleep in the car on the way to our resort but was awake and ready to go again once we arrived! Our first day there we jut took it easy. Went swimming and explored the resort. We all were VERY ready for bed pretty early that night.
On Wed, May 30th, we spent our first day at Disney-Magic Kingdom. This place is huge!! Since we were 1st timers we needed to figure out the transportation around that place! There are trams in the parking lots, monorails, buses a ferry boat--too many choices! Since Magic Kingdom is surrounded by water we ended up taking the ferry boat over. What a neat way to arrive, you come across the water and see Cinderella's castle in the distance. So cool. Not only for Jack and Lydia but for us adults too! We spent the entire day at Magic Kingdom. We arrived before the park opened at 9 and stayed until the fireworks!! Once we were in the park our first sighting were the three storybook princesses-Cinderella, Belle and Sleeping Beauty. Jack wasnt too sure about them but we did get a picture and his autograph book signed. We than headed up Main Street USA toward Fantasyland and the castle. On our way there a random parade went through and Jack was able to see alot of characters that he knows-Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Woody and Jessie and many more. Lydia was so cute dancing along to the music and waving to EVERYONE--I am not kidding when I say everyone. Someone would look at her during this trip and she would wave hi. I think she picked it up from the characters waving during the parades. Once in Fantasyland, we rode the Prince Charming Carousel, watched a 3-D show called Mickey's Philharmagic, rode the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Mad Tea party spinning tea cups, Peter Pan's Adventure and It's a small World (This ride was probably Lydia's favorite, there was so much to see and music so she was pointing and dancing during the whole ride!) Lydia and Jack both rode all the rides! Lydia took a little snooze while Jack rode on Dumbo but once she was awake she was ready to go again! We also ate lunch in Fantasyland. Jack was in awe the entire time. He kept telling us that he was having lots of fun and he LOVES DISNEY! So cute. We later took the train around the park to Frontier Land to get in a few rides over there but both the rides were broken down! We decided to watch the County Bear Jamboree, Lydia again loved this little show. Clapping and pointing at everything! We than headed onto Adventure land! While in line for the Pirates of the Caribbean, Goofy appeared--Our 2nd meet and greet! This one went really well. Jack had his autograph book ready and greeted Goofy with a huge hug while Lydia pulled on his ears and poked at his nose :) Jack and Lydia both did really well on the pirates ride. Jack wanted to go again but it was a busy day and the lines were long so we went to the Jungle Cruise ride. We were all getting a little tired, hot (it was 98!) and hungry so we found a place to eat in Liberty Square. Both kids inhaled their meals and Lydia took another nap, this time Ryan stayed with her while the rest of us went off to ride the Haunted Mansion. This was the one ride I was worried about taking Jack on but that little stinker LOVED IT! He asked to go on it a few more times during our trip--who would have guessed! We than made one more walk through Fantasyland and rode a few more rides before we made out way to main street to find a place for the parade. With all of the standing in line, the heat and being tired, Ryan and I figured we wouldn't make it through the parade but again, our kids surprised us! Both of them were awake for the entire Main Street Electrical parade and the fireworks. Jack asked me when the fireworks started to lay the stroller back--once the fireworks were done, he looked up at me and asked "are the fireworks over?" When I told him yes, he closed his eyes and went to sleep! Not Lydia though, she pestered Jack the whole journey back to the car--poked him, pulled at his hair, she just wanted him awake!! So funny!
Well, that is enough for this one post--I will write more on our 2nd day later :)
