Sick Baby

Poor Lydia has been super sick! After having a fun week of the stomach bug before Christmas, Lydia stated not acting like herself on Christmas Eve. She was waking up multiple times at night and just plain fussy. I thought it was probably teething since she didnt have a fever and no other symptoms. Finally on the wed after Christmas she spiked a temp, by Thursday her fever was as high as 103 and she was refusing to eat. I had Ryan take her into the clinic and the pediatrician checked her out and told Ryan it was a virus. The next day she was still spiking temps as high as 104 so I called the clinic and got the answer, "its a virus and it is usually taking about 4 days of high fever before it breaks." OK, fine. We went through the weekend giving her ibuprofen every 6 hrs and trying to keep her temp down. Finally on Sunday, I told Ryan that I KNEW it was something else and my guess was a UTI! When we took her in on Monday morning, guess what, it is a UTI! and a really bad one at that....Poor thing has been so uncomfortable for almost 2 weeks! So, after lots of tests (getting a catheter, blood drawn, an ultrasound!) we finally had a plan. Her pediatrician (who felt really bad by the way) felt like she should probably be admitted but was comfortable with another plan that we worked out! So, the past three mornings our poor peanut has had to get 2 shots of antibiotics and started some oral antibiotics as well. I am hoping she is turning a corner as there have been lots of other issues d/t her UTI (she has lost over a lb and the Dr threatened to have her admitted for that, and her HgB is pretty low, again probably related to her not eating and getting any iron.) Luckily her fever has been down (only getting up to 102ish)! After this is all done we will need to do a few more tests since UTIs arent common in babies....Hopefully her UTI was just from the lovely stomach bug she had the week before getting sick!
Funny thing is as sick as she is, we can still get her to smile :)
